Investigating Bioaccumulation: Algae Shrimp Data

Our overall goal for this project was to work as a group to find out how much DDT has been displaced in both the fish and human populations, considering the factors that control how much DDT is implemented into their ecosystems.

The general formula:
Amount of DDT consumed = Mass of food (g/ shrimp) x Amount of DDT contained in food (mg/g)

For the number of shrimp:
0.002 mg of DDT per shrimp = 10.0g of algae x 0.0002 mg/g

Using the same procedure, we solved for the number of fish:
3.4 mg of DDT per fish = 1700.0 g of fish X 0.002 mg/g

We had a slight setback when the grams didn't cancel out in the shrimp formula. Shown below is how the formula for shrimp would have looked if we had performed accordingly to procedures.
DDT consumed = 32,850g X 3.4 mg of DDT per fish

The number 32,850 was achieved by multiplying the weight of the amount of fish by 365, and then multiplying again by the number of years, which was 60.

Algae- 0.2
shrimp- 2.0
fish- 23.0
Human- 16190.0
